VTOL Aircraft With Four Rotating Wings for Power

By Lance Winslow

A few months ago, I was talking to one of the inventors and designers of a new prototype. It was a small scaled model with a rotating wing. We got into a rather robust engineering and technical aerodynamic discussion over all of this, and although it wasn’t a debate, we both had different ideas of how we might build a VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) version of this contraption. No, this design is not new, even in the 1920s there were plans on the drawing board and real-life prototypes which had crashed and burned.

Nevertheless the concept is valid, it does work, and if done correctly it could solve some problems or the challenges of VTOL flight.

First I’d like to say that the transition between vertical flight and horizontal flight is one of the trickiest dilemmas for an aerospace engineer. This is because you are using one set of aerodynamic forces, and changing to a different parameter and set of aerospace physics as you go through that transitional flight phase.

Now then, let me tell you a little bit about the design that I have in mind. I want to attempt to paint a mental picture for you. You know those quad copters that everyone is using now for vertical takeoff and landing, as well as hovering. Perhaps you’ve seen the UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles), UASs (unmanned aerial systems), and MAVs (micro air vehicles) of this type. Everyone from NASA and DARPA to the USAF and Unmanned Systems Association has been promoting these – and for good reason too, it is a very stable platform.

Of course, it isn’t so good for horizontal flight, unless you can turn all those ducted fans and rotate them 90-degrees for forward flight. Yes, there are some models and some large almost life size prototypes that are able to do this, but realize they aren’t without stability challenges or dangerous risks. Just take a look at the Moller flying car design. If you are unfamiliar with this I suggest you go watch a YouTube video to better acquaint yourself.

Okay so, what if I took the quad motor UAV design and put four rotating wings along a slender fuselage, two on both sides, forward and aft. What if I then had the two in the back facing the opposite direction? As we transition to forward flight, the two in the back would simply turn themselves on a vertical hinge or spindle and slowly face forward.

There would be absolutely no stability problems or challenges while that transition was taking place if it were done in a reasonable time frame preventing inter-rotating wing wash from creating chaotic turbulence (30-seconds to cross the 90-degree point on the mechanic swiveling sequence). As this occurred the aircraft would start moving forward faster until they were facing the exact same direction as the two in the front. Therefore, transitional flight has been achieved without incident or safety issues. Please consider all this and think on it.

Pygmies Have Genes Our Over Populated World Could Use – Is This the Answer?

By Lance Winslow

Over the years, I’ve talked to many futurists and people involved in the overpopulation problem here on Earth. Some of these gentlemen are involved in a rather large organization, and fairly politically astute. Others have perhaps philosophical reasons, as do some of scientists and science fiction writers who depict dystopia if humans continue to procreate at this rapid pace. In other words, we will run out of water, food, fossil fuels, and just about everything will enter an era of scarcity.

Many have reasoned that this is impossible because technology has been able to keep up with the problems and challenges as they grow – at least so far. This is one positive way to look at things, but it may not always be the case. One science fiction writer noted that if humans kept procreating at the current rate that in 4000 years, the total weight of all the humans on the planet would equal the weight of the planet itself. Obviously that’s not possible – do you see that point?

Is there a solution before we overpopulate ourselves into oblivion? Yes, let’s talk about this for second shall we? You see, on or about April 13, 2013 there was an interesting article on Dark Government titled; “Pygmies Seen Emerging From Forest for First Time,” which stated; “Rangers patrolling the Way Kambas National Park (TNWK) in Lampung claim to have sighted dozens of pygmies in a number of areas across the park.”

This might be the answer to over population, make humans smaller. It worked for the dinosaurs. Many people believe that the dinosaurs went extinct due to a massive volcano, an ice age, a comet hitting the Earth, or they starve themselves out of existence. I don’t believe any of those things were the only cause. In fact, I believe that the larger dinosaurs ran out of things to eat and as the climate got colder, and those animals were smaller and thus able to go underground or live in the remaining warm areas – they survived – the smallest of those species kept evolving.

There is plenty of evidence to suggest this is the case, and it doesn’t negate any of the other potential theories, as there may have been several factors over a 400 million year period. Now then, if the dinosaurs which did survive were those who evolved to be smaller due to less food supply, or harsh conditions, maybe if we used a smart mixture of pygmy genes. As our population grew eventually humans would all be smaller and therefore use fewer resources, and less food.

In many regards it would be like cutting the population in half considering the resources we use along with the food supply and amount of water needed. Do you see that point? Please consider all this and think on it.

Parental Involvement Now Easier With Education Online Tutoring

By

Psychologists are of the opinion that parents are the first teachers to a child and their early and informal schooling begins at home. Analysis shows that our fast paced lives have derailed our involvement with our own kids. Think for a while. How many of you regularly check the school or tutorial exercise note books of your child? When is the last time that you have helped your child in getting the homework done? In buying toys and taking your child to some amusement park you are only providing him with the material needs of the world. Is this enough? Understanding the emotional needs of the child is of utmost importance. Research reveals that parental involvement in a child’s process of learning results in improvement of school assessments, score sheets, regular classroom attendance, self-motivation and self-esteem of a child.

After all the day’s exertion it is nearly next to impossible for a parent to rush with the child to a coaching center. To be there physically present for more than a couple of hours is again a big ‘no no’. Now you can opt for education online tutoring and be at complete ease at your own home. You can equally take part with your kid during the study sessions. Usually most of the parents feel a lot inhibited to sit in front of the private tutor and follow the study sessions.

But with education online learning a parent can shrug off the coyness. A parent can easily and equally get involved in the interactive sessions. In a virtual class a parent can always monitor or assess the progress of the child. There are options where parents can sign in to the whiteboard & observe the study session along with the student & the teacher. In case they miss out the session, they can view the full recording of the session later by clicking on the link of past classes from their dashboard.

By signing into the system, they can check all the home work assigned to their kids, the assignments, the examinations the kid has appeared for and the score sheet. Thus they are always aware of the progress. If there is any query about the progress, they can directly ask the teacher from their dashboard.

The idea of a tutor coming to your house at his own convenient time and teaching subjects of his own choice may not satisfy you. With the help of online tutorial, one can hire a teacher for even one hour to clarify the specific doubts on any specific topic.

Sometimes a parent even needs to brush up certain disciplines so that one can help and guide the child in the absence of the tutor. Subjects like math or physical science needs special care and attention. The parent can always take tip or guidance from the math teacher to help the child in solving miscellaneous math problems. A parent can even clear out his or her doubts from the online tutor. Just being in the session with the teacher and student, can help in brushing up the old forgotten topics, which may come handy while managing the queries of the kid.

Last but not least, a parent while attending the session or checking recorded session can guide the teacher more about the kid, which in turn helps the teacher to be a better mentor for the student. If a parent is not satisfied with the tutor’s method of teaching then he or she can provide the tutor with potential guidelines in dealing with the study habits of the child. It is the parent who knows a child at its best.

Online tutorial abates total involvement of the parents in the study session. Thus online tutoring is fast replacing the conventional norm of coaching classes & is poised to be the mode of study for students in coming days.

Three Examples Of Psychic Phenomena

There are many kinds of psychic or paranormal experiences. Finding out more about a few of them can add depth and interest to our lives as spiritual beings. This article will focus on three types of spirit manifestation.

By Miranda Bonham

I’m an individual who is fascinated with all kinds of psychic happenings and experiences. There is a wide range of paranormal manifestations that for many people are natural, for others it’s just unbelievable. I do think almost anyone can think of at least one instance in their lives where the supernatural has touched them in some way. I’ve written this article to talk about a few kinds of phenomena that especially interests me. Some I have been lucky to have had direct experience with.

Have you ever seen ghost or spirit orbs? If you have ever had floating, circular balls of light phenomena appear in photographs or video then you’ve seen an orb. Often they are caused by natural things in the air like dust, pollen or water. Others are harder to explain, and those are thought to be made of spirit energy. Spirits or ghost are thought to travel in the form of orbs as a speedy way of travel. Some appear to have faces, and some are very colorful. They can appear in a range of color and sometimes more than one color. If you can at least try to rule out natural causes, you might find you’ve got a spiritual orb photo or video. Some people believe orbs are sometimes Angels. Often paranormal researchers will record these mysterious, traveling round balls of light at the many haunted places they go to.

Ghost photography is another great paranormal phenomenon. One of the most famous photos of an apparition, and one thought to absolutely not be a fake, is the Brown Lady of Raynam Castle. She appears on a staircase at Raynam, and in 1936 was caught on film descending a staircase. She appears in what looks like a brown dress, and a cape. The figure is about fifty percent solid. It is clearly the figure of a woman. Many fake ghost photographs have been taken through the years, but there are some, like the Brown Lady, that are thought to be true images of spirits. Seeing a spirit in person, you might put the experience down to your imagination, or even wonder if your eyes were playing tricks on you. But when you get a photograph ruled out as any sort of fraud then it goes a long way to help many people understand there is life after “death”.

Another fascinating ghostly phenomena is mediumism. A medium is a person who can communicate with spirits. There are different methods, for example clairaudience, which is the ability to hear spirit voices, and there is full trance mediumship. A full trance medium is the phenomena of a spirit speaking through the lips of a living person. Some trance mediums, like Ethel Johnson Myers, have done many years of trance and the details of their communications was wonderful proof of contact with the souls who have left their bodies and continue on with life in the world of spirit. Mrs. Myers used to work with Hans Holzer, a psychic researcher. Edgar Cayce is another example of a full trance medium.

These are only a few short examples of the amazing mysteries and manifestations of psychic phenomena. There are many more categories to explore, and a whole world of information about the many topics associated with the psychic world.

Miranda Bonham is a writer who is fascinated with the paranormal. She enjoys writing learning about various related subjects, sometimes using her own direct experiences in her writings.

Learn English: Seven Things You Need to Know About British and American English

There are lots of lexical differences between British and American English.

Seven pieces of advice about the differences between British and American English. The main focus is on pronunciation and grammar.

Only the other day I was confused when one of my young Japanese students told me that she ‘finished school last year’… school = college / high school / university? I guessed correctly that it meant ‘university’ to my British brain! There are so many vocabulary differences that I have focussed here on pronunciation and grammar. Here are my 7 ‘must haves’ to help you with your learning:

1. First, in words like “demand,” “laugh,” and “dance,” most Americans use the sound /æ/ (think of the “a” in “fat”) in places where RP speakers use the sound /a/, sometimes called the “ah” sound, as in the word “father.”

2. Another significant pronunciation difference is in the sound /r/. In RP, the sound /r/ disappears when it’s followed by a consonant or appears at the end of a word, such as in the words “cart” and “father.” Think of words like iron: in British English it sounds like ‘eye on’!

3. For speakers of British English, the American tendency to change the sound /t/ to the sound /d/ in front of an unstressed syllable can be confusing. Most Americans pronounce “butter” as “budder” and “united” as “unided”.

4. In British English, nouns that describe groups of people, like “committee” or “army,” are often used with plural verbs, as in, “The committee are meeting now.” Americans would use “is” in that sentence.

5. British English speakers tend to use the present perfect more consistently, especially with adverbs like “yet,” “already,” and “just.” Americans switch back and forth between the simple past tense and the present perfect tense. A British speaker may ask someone in the early afternoon, “Have you had your lunch yet?” or “Have you eaten lunch?” An American would say, “Did you eat yet?”

6. The verb “to get” is used rather differently; for example, British English speakers might say either, “I have a car.” or “I have got a car.” Americans use both, but prefer the sentence without “got.” In addition, for British English speakers, the past participle for “get” is “got”, Americans use “gotten” as the past participle.

7. American English and British English have other differences in their past participles. Many verbs in English have two possible past tense and past participle forms, a regular form with “ed” and an irregular form. A few of them are listed below:

Present Regular Past Irregular Past

learn learned learnt

dream dreamed dreamt

spell spelled spelt

British English speakers use both forms. Americans tend to use only the regular forms, although both forms are considered correct.

My advice is to be aware of the differences, accept both but be careful to use the spelling and grammar appropriate for each country. Have your work proof-read if in doubt!

I run an online language school based in the UK and therefore teach British English. I have a British accent and many of my students request pronunciation practice in their lessons. I offer English as a foreign or second language and run courses on Business English, English for Travel and Conversation. I am TEFL qualified with over 28 years of teaching experience and I offer personal one-to-one classes with lesson notes and feedback reports. I also offer a proof-reading service which is immediate and professional. Lessons are fun, professional and relevant to my students’ needs.

Dead Language

By Igamberdieva Munojot Karimovna

Dead language – it is a term that is used in linguistics to refer to languages that are not a permanent tool of communication of any now existing people.

The concept of “dead languages” is contrasted, the concept of “living languages” and includes:

1) Languages have disappeared without leaving his continuation of the currently existing languages (eg languages Sumerian, Babylonian, Assyrian, Egyptian, Gothic, etc.);

2) Languages, is the ancient form of the now existing languages already dead and changing others (for example, the Anglo-Saxon language in relation to English, the ancient Greek to the modern Greek, and more.).

As with many of the concepts developed historically, the term “dead languages” refers to a sufficiently large set of quite different objects. This includes, and Latin, which is now a significant component of European culture, and languages of Tasmanian Aborigines, whose support was carved by British colonizers. In addition, the dead languages are often called archaic forms of living actively using language. For example, in the popular textbook AA Reformatsky, in the section devoted to genealogical classification of languages, we find in the Greek part of the Indo-European group, which consists of:

1) Modern Greek, and

2) classical Greek, and

3) Middle Greek or Byzantine.

Meanwhile, it is obvious that the modern Greek, ancient Greek and Middle Greek – not three different languages, and three stages of development of one language – Greek.

As rightly pointed Academician Marr, it is from the materials seemingly disappeared dead language to build a new, qualitatively different from their tongues, “New languages and so-called old and ancient cultural languages of the world, not the works in the strict sense of the word… and there were in the process of crossing is joined together from elements or entire words already existing… different languages.”

In terms of its relevance and importance to society of culture in its present state of all the dead languages can be divided between the four groups. The first group includes languages that continue to actively work in the field of books and writing. Such languages are studied in a large number of different kinds of educational institutions, and not primarily philological. These languages are regularly creating new texts and spoken of the living languages they only differ only in that for anyone not native, but absorbed only in the process of formal education. Examples of such languages can lead Latin, Church, Coptic, Sanskrit, geez. With its high cultural significance, such language is usually a strong impact on the living spoken languages of the society in which they operate. Russian literary language has experienced in the course of its historical development, the greatest impact of the Church Slavonic, and Sanskrit and still remains the main source of scientific and cultural terms Hindi – the official language of India.

The second group includes languages, the meaning of which is limited to the sphere of historical and philological studies. Despite the fact that the company has a number of specialists, who know these languages, able to read them and do with them transfers, new texts in these languages are not created. As an example, you can bring the Sumerian, Gothic, Hittite, Orkhon-Yenisey, Urartian, Meroitic and more. For other languages, such as the languages of the previous group, is characterized by the existence of a developed literary tradition of writing in the age of their operation; works created for them, often included in the golden fund of world literature.

The third group consists of dead languages of which we know little more than the fact that they ever existed. Preserved monuments do not allow anything like fully describe the vocabulary and grammar of the language, but can sometimes set the individual words and grammatical forms, to determine the place of language in the genealogical classification. As members of this group can lead geruls, gepids, Vandal, Polabian, Prussian, Slowinski and more. etc.

Finally, the fourth group includes languages, the existence of which in the past we only assume on the basis of indirect evidence. An example of this is the Proto-Euphratean language, traces of which have been preserved in the form of substrate effects in Sumerian. Most clearly they “trace in toponymy and onomastics northern and southern Mesopotamia.

Sometimes Proto-Euphratean language called banana, which is associated with the characteristic structure of some of the language of proper names that resemble English word banana – “banana”, for example, Bunene, Kubaba, Zababa, Bilulu etc.”
